PepsiCo Walkers: 24 Weeks of Clear 200-Micron Nozzles

Home 9 Case Studies and Results 9 PepsiCo Walkers: 24 Weeks of Clear 200-Micron Nozzles
Key results
24 weeks without cleaning
95% lower cleaning cost
147 hours of downtime avoided

Case Study from Hydropath

The Challenge

  • Spray nozzle scale blockage stopped the line every week
  • 200 micron outlets were highly vulnerable to scale blockage
  • Pressure reduction at the outlets encouraged scale formation
  • Each acid-bath cleaning took three hours with the line stopped
  • Cleaning created downtime, labour and chemical costs

The Solution

On the UK’s largest crisp factory, one HydroFLOW® i45 was fitted  after the pumps on the two flexible plastic feed pipes, treating all four sets of 200 micron spray nozzles on the cold-water spray bars. Nozzles that had blocked weekly stayed clear for 24 weeks, so the weekly three-hour acid soak and the production stoppage that went with it were no longer needed.

Key Outcomes

R

Nozzles previously cleaned weekly stayed clear for 24 weeks

R

Around 147 hours of annual production downtime avoided

R

Estimated 95% annual reduction in nozzle cleaning costs

R

Roughly 196 litres of acid solution saved a year, across 49 avoided cleans
