Industrial water heater limescale at an apple packer
Industrial water heater limescale was fouling three ageing heaters that supplied apple washing at a US packing facility. Scale on the tubes and tank walls was creating heavy maintenance and dragging on efficiency and reliability, and the heaters were close to the end of their expected life. One HydroFLOW® unit was installed on the incoming water line feeding all three in 2011. Scale fell by more than 70% within three months, and the heaters went on running for another 14 years. When they were finally replaced with high-efficiency models in late 2025, the facility fitted a Generation 4 i60 with HydroKNCT remote monitoring in January 2026.
The Challenge
- Industrial water heater limescale fouled three ageing heaters supplying apple washing
- Scale accumulated on heater tubes and tank walls
- Scale created extensive maintenance requirements
- Heater reliability and efficiency were affected
- The equipment was nearing the end of its expected life
The Solution
- Unit installed: one HydroFLOW® unit, later upgraded to a Generation 4 HydroFLOW® i60
- Installation point: incoming water line feeding the three heaters
- Installed: 2011; i60 upgrade in January 2026
Industrial water heater limescale was treated at the single incoming line, so one unit covered all three heaters. The ageing bank then kept running for another 14 years. When it was finally replaced with high-efficiency models in late 2025, the facility upgraded to the Generation 4 i60 in January 2026, with a HydroKNCT device linked to Hydropath Care remote monitoring software.
