Case Study from HYDROPATH Asia
Hot spring water scale in a hot spring apartment complex
Hot spring water scale was building on pumps and piping at a luxury hot spring apartment complex in Taiwan, where the supply ran above 400 ppm hardness. Some systems needed maintenance every month, maintenance was consuming staff time, and the hot spring facilities also needed bacteria control. Between November 2017 and June 2018 more than 30 HydroFLOW® units were installed across the buildings, phased so the building managers could confirm results on the worst systems first. Scale stayed soft and flushed away rather than hardening, maintenance intervals extended and the overall maintenance load fell by half.
The Challenges
The Solution
- Unit installed: more than 30 HydroFLOW® units
- Installation point: hot spring systems and hot spring facilities across the buildings
- Installed: in phases, November 2017 to June 2018
- Water: hardness above 400 ppm
The rollout was phased over eight months, starting with the worst systems so the building managers could confirm results before extending to the rest. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale to surfaces, so deposits stay soft and flush away. Hot spring water scale is now controlled across the buildings, and the hot spring circuits gained bacteria control as well.
