Case Study from HydroFLOW France
Hot water cylinder limescale at a French holiday residence
Hot water cylinder limescale at an ODALYS holiday residence in France was being removed at around 200 kg a year from four 3,000 litre electric cylinders running at 60°C. A 5 cm layer formed on the electric heaters, five heaters were replaced every year, and maintenance cost and efficiency loss were both climbing. Two HydroFLOW® C60 units were installed on the cold side on 29 April 2014, for a four month pilot run by IDEX Energies. The remaining scale became light and powdery, the annual figure fell to under 10 kg, and estimated energy savings exceeded 50%, with heater savings estimated at €1,750 a year.
The Challenge
The Solution
- Units installed: two HydroFLOW® C60
- Installation point: cold supply to the cylinders after the booster, and cold distribution line
- Trial: four month pilot from 29 April 2014, run by IDEX Energies
Hot water cylinder limescale was treated on the cold side, before the water reached the four cylinders. One unit went on the supply feeding the cylinders, downstream of the booster, and the second on the cold water distribution line. IDEX Energies ran the pilot and recorded the scale removed, the condition of the electric heaters and the estimated energy saving.
Testimonial
“The effectiveness of the HydroFLOW® C60 system is undeniable. The remaining limescale crumbles like sugar, making maintenance easier and reducing overall maintenance costs.” — Site Maintenance Team
