Mould cooling water scale across 40 machines
Mould cooling water scale was building up at a Philippine injection moulding plant running 40 machines and four cooling towers on hard deep well water. Scaling continued despite chemical dosing, acid cleaning was needed every three to six months, and machines were stopping with overheating in between, costing output on a plant that runs three shifts. In February 2015 three HydroFLOW® units were installed across the heat exchangers and chillers, with a side stream filter. Scale was brought under control, cleaning stretched to a yearly interval and the overheating stoppages ended.
The Challenges
- Mould cooling water scale was building on hard deep well water
- Scaling continued despite chemical dosing
- Acid cleaning was required every 3 to 6 months
- Machines were stopping with overheating between cleans
- Forty machines and four cooling towers had to be covered
The Solution
- Units installed: three HydroFLOW® units, with a side stream filter
- Installation point: heat exchangers and chillers
- Installed: February 2015
- System: 40 machines and four cooling towers
- Water: hard deep well water
Three units were placed across the heat exchangers and chillers, serving all 40 machines and four towers. A side stream filter was fitted alongside to handle the deposits released during the first months. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale to surfaces, and mould cooling water scale no longer stops machines with overheating.
