Tims Dairy: Milk-Line Cleans and Acid Use Both Halved

Home 9 Case Studies and Results 9 Tims Dairy: Milk-Line Cleans and Acid Use Both Halved
Key results
50% fewer milk-line cleans
50% less acid per clean
Less lost production

Case Study from Hydropath

The Challenge

  • Dairy heat exchanger scale and limescale increased the cleaning burden
  • The milk line required acid cleaning twice every week
  • Each clean used a full dose of phosphoric acid
  • Milk scale accumulated on the plate-pack heat exchanger
  • Cleaning shutdowns cost operator time and lost production

The Solution

Four HydroFLOW® units were installed across the factory — three on water feeds and one HydroFLOW® C45 on the milk line ahead of the plate-pack heat exchanger. The scale-related cleaning burden dropped: the milk line went from two cleans a week to one, and each of those cleans needed half the phosphoric acid it had before.

Testimonial

“HydroFLOW® has proved effective protection against our biggest production headache. I was so impressed with it that I’ve had the domestic version fitted to my water system at home.” — Peter Timotheou, Director, Tims Dairy

Key Outcomes

R

Milk line cleaning fell from twice weekly to once weekly

R

Operators spent less time shutting down and cleaning

R

Each clean used half the previous phosphoric acid dose

R

Fewer shutdowns meant less production time lost to maintenance
