Car wash water reuse and nozzle scale
Car wash water reuse was held back at a Palm Springs car wash by foul odours in the reclaimed water and hard water scale on the spray nozzles. Distribution on the rinse bars was uneven and the nozzles needed frequent maintenance. One HydroFLOW® i60 was fitted to the reclaimed water system and one HS40 to the final rinse stage, both around existing pipe with no shutdown. Scale stopped bonding to the nozzles, the reclaimed water cleaned up and the odour went. Reuse reached 60% with no chemical dosing, and reclaimed water that had been going to drain went back into the wash cycle.
The Challenges
- Car wash water reuse was limited by odour and scale in the reclaimed system
- Spray nozzles were clogged with hard water scale
- Reclaimed water was producing foul odours
- Water distribution on the rinse bars was uneven
- Frequent nozzle maintenance was required
The Solution
- Units installed: HydroFLOW® i60 and HS40
- Installation point: i60 on the reclaimed water system, HS40 on the final rinse stage
- Chemical dosing: none
Each unit was given one job. The i60 on the reclaimed line dealt with the bacteria behind the odour, and the HS40 on the final rinse kept scale off the customer-facing finish. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale to surfaces, which restored spray performance. Both fitted around existing pipe with no shutdown, and car wash water reuse reached 60% without chemicals.
