Hotel hot water flow at 21 GPG in San Antonio
Hotel hot water flow was collapsing at a 136-room San Antonio hotel on water of 357 ppm, or 21 grains per gallon. Scale was restricting strainers, showerheads and aerators, low-flow alarms sounded weekly, and guests complained of low pressure and no hot water, which led to discounted and refunded rooms. Two HydroFLOW® i100 units were fitted to the main lines feeding the tankless water heaters at the start of 2022. Flow began improving within a month and the weekly alarms became rare. Tankless heater cleaning is now 75% less frequent with no harsh chemicals, and the estimated ROI at the 12 month mark was well under a year.
The Challenge
- Hotel hot water flow fell away as scale restricted strainers, showerheads and aerators
- Extremely hard water measured 357 ppm, or 21 GPG
- Guests experienced low pressure and a lack of hot water
- Low-flow alarms were sounding every week
- Service problems led to room discounts and, in some cases, full refunds
The Solution
- Units installed: two HydroFLOW® i100
- Installation point: main water lines feeding the tankless water heaters
- Installed: beginning of 2022
- Water: 357 ppm hardness, or 21 GPG
Hotel hot water flow was treated at the main lines rather than at the fixtures, with the units fitted ahead of the tankless water heaters. Flow rates began improving drastically a month after installation. Weekly low-flow alarms became rare, previously clogged showerheads and aerators now hold minimal debris, and heater cleaning no longer needs harsh chemicals.
