The Challenge
- Hot water cylinder limescale was building at around 200 kg removed each year
- Four 3,000 L electric hot water cylinders ran at approximately 60°C
- A 5 cm scale layer formed on the electric heaters
- Five heaters were replaced every year
- Maintenance costs and efficiency losses were both climbing
The Solution
Two HydroFLOW® C60 units were installed on the hotel, on 29 April 2014, downstream of the booster on the cold water supply feeding the four cylinders and on the cold water distribution line, for a four month pilot run by IDEX Energies at an ODALYS residence. Remaining scale became light and powdery rather than hard, falling from around 200 kg a year to under 10 kg. The electric heaters stayed serviceable, maintenance dropped and estimated energy savings exceeded 50%.
