Evaporator chemical dosing stopped on a fresh water generator
Evaporator chemical dosing was needed to keep this Japanese vessel’s fresh water generator performing, yet scale was building on the plates regardless. The cleaning intervals were disrupting operation, and the operator wanted stable water production without the dosing, with no wish to add another chemical system. In January 2016 a HydroFLOW® HM unit was fitted to the fresh water generator system. Chemical dosing was then stopped and water output held. The existing deposits softened until they could be removed by hand, cleaning was no longer disruptive, and dosing chemicals no longer had to be carried on board.
The Challenges
- Evaporator chemical dosing was required to maintain FWG performance
- Scale was building on the fresh water generator plates despite dosing
- Cleaning intervals were disrupting operation
- Stable water production had to be maintained
- The operator wanted to stop carrying dosing chemicals
The Solution
- Unit installed: One HydroFLOW® HM unit
- Installation point: fresh water generator system
- Installed: January 2016
- Dosing stopped: FWG chemical dosing
The unit was fitted to the fresh water generator system and evaporator chemical dosing was stopped. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale to surfaces, so existing deposits softened and became removable by hand. Output held throughout, and cleaning was done by hand as required rather than to a chemical schedule. The aim was to remove the existing chemical system, not to add another.
