Case Study from HydroFLOW Chile
Boiler heat exchanger scale is a constant risk on very hard water, and in a 140 m² home in eastern Santiago the supply had gone from below 425 ppm to around 500 ppm. The domestic boiler served three bathrooms and a kitchen, and had already run for five years before treatment. One HydroFLOW® HS38 was then installed to protect it. About five years later, when the boiler was removed after an electronics failure, its heat exchanger was opened and inspected. It showed negligible scale on the fins and negligible limescale inside the exchanger pipework.
The Challenge
- Boiler heat exchanger scale was a persistent risk on very hard water
- Water hardness rose from below 425 ppm to around 500 ppm
- The boiler had already operated for five years before treatment
- Scale could restrict heat transfer and internal flow
- One boiler supplied three bathrooms and a kitchen
The Solution
- Unit installed: one HydroFLOW® HS38 (now known as HydroFLOW® Pearl)
- Protected equipment: the domestic boiler and its internal waterways
- Water: around 500 ppm hardness, up from below 425 ppm
- Monitoring period: about five years, then an internal inspection
The HS38 (HydroFLOW Pearl) was installed to protect the domestic boiler from boiler heat exchanger scale, and it ran for about five years as the supply hardened towards 500 ppm. When the boiler was later removed following an electronics failure, the heat exchanger was opened so that the fins and the internal pipework could be inspected directly.
