Case Study from HydroFLOW Canada
Indoor pool chlorine reduction at Lyle Hallman pool
Indoor pool chlorine reduction was the aim at Lyle Hallman pool, a 25-metre indoor pool owned and operated by the City of Kitchener in Ontario, Canada. With around 300 to 500 swimmers a day, keeping the water right took a lot of chlorine, shock treatments added to it, and staff noticed a strong chlorine smell. One HydroFLOW® P160 was installed on the pool circulation system, and chlorine use and water quality were monitored. Daily chlorine use fell by 51%, no shock treatment was needed while chloramines stayed low, and staff reported clearer water and less odour.

The Challenges
- Indoor pool chlorine reduction was needed at a busy public pool
- Around 300 to 500 swimmers a day increased chemical demand
- Chlorine shock treatments added to chemical use
- Staff reported a noticeable chlorine smell
The Solution
- Unit installed: one HydroFLOW® P160
- Installation point: pool circulation system
- Pool: 25-metre indoor pool
- Swimmers: approximately 300 to 500 a day
- Monitoring: daily chlorine readings and chloramine levels
For indoor pool chlorine reduction without changing how the pool was run, the P160 was fitted to the circulation pipework. Daily chlorine readings and chloramine levels were then followed, so that any cut in dosing could be checked against water quality, and the need for shock treatment was tracked alongside them.
