Case Study from HydroFLOW Italy
Fish farm UV replacement at a seawater farm near Rome
Fish farm UV replacement was the aim at Civitavecchia Fish Farm, a seawater aquaculture facility near Rome. Its UV systems cost around €1,100 a month each to run and still struggled to control bacterial and viral infections, and water clarity needed improving. HydroFLOW® units replaced the UV systems in two phases, across the hatchery, the breeding pools and the DN300 filtration system in the main hall. The farm reported no further bacterial or viral infections for more than two and a half years, saved about €1,100 a month for each UV system replaced, and saw clearer water and faster fish growth.
The Challenge
- Fish farm UV replacement was needed because UV struggled to control bacterial and viral infections
- Each UV system cost around €1,100 a month to operate
- Fish infections kept recurring
- Water clarity needed to improve
- Several treatment circuits needed protecting: hatchery, breeding pools and main hall
The Solution
- Units installed: four HydroFLOW® units and two HydroFLOW® Custom units
- Installation point: hatchery, breeding pools and the main hall filtration system
- Pipe size: DN300 in the main hall
- Installed: in two phases, replacing the existing UV systems
The fish farm UV replacement was carried out in two phases, covering the hatchery, the breeding pools and the DN300 filtration system in the main hall. Four HydroFLOW® units and two HydroFLOW® Custom units took over from the UV systems, and 10 kW of energy-intensive UV treatment was eliminated.
