MV Hoegh America: 25 MT/day Held, Cleaning Under 2hrs

Home 9 Case Studies and Results 9 MV Hoegh America: 25 MT/day Held, Cleaning Under 2hrs
Key results
25 MT/day output maintained
<2 hour cleaning time
0 chemicals used

The Challenges

  • Up to 3mm scale on titanium plates
  • Chemical dosing required for operation
  • Cleaning taking 24 to 48 hours
  • Operators aiming to cut material and labour costs

The Solution

One HM100 unit was fitted to the 4″ seawater inlet pipe about 1 metre before the FWG inlet in December 2012, for a six-month trial. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale to surfaces, so plates stay mostly clean with only loose, hand-removable scale.

Key Outcomes

R

FWG output held at 25 MT/day over 6 months

R

Dosing pump disabled, no chemicals used

R

Cleaning cut from 24-48 hours to under 2

R

Plates mostly clean with only loose scale
