Case Study from HydroFLOW Canada
Hot water tank limescale at the Redwood Inn
Hot water tank limescale was building at around an inch every six weeks in the two 80-gallon tanks at the 92-suite Redwood Inn. Both tanks needed cleaning every six weeks, the drains clogged and needed a high-pressure hose, deposits kept reaching the bathroom taps, and three suites had eventually been taken out of service. One HydroFLOW® C100 was fitted to the cold-water feed serving both tanks. Over the following six months neither tank needed routine draining or cleaning, scale fell to about a sixteenth of an inch, the drains flowed freely and all three suites went back into use.
The Challenge
- Hot water tank limescale built up at around 1 inch every six weeks
- Two 80-gallon domestic hot-water tanks needed cleaning every six weeks
- Tank drains clogged and needed a high-pressure hose to unblock
- Deposits repeatedly affected the bathroom taps
- Three suites eventually became unavailable to guests
The Solution
- Unit installed: one HydroFLOW® C100 commercial unit
- Installation point: cold-water feed serving both 80-gallon hot-water tanks
- Monitoring period: six months
Hot water tank limescale was treated at the shared cold feed, so a single unit covered both tanks before the water was heated. Over the following six months neither tank needed its routine draining or cleaning, and the drains no longer needed a high-pressure hose to clear blockages.
