MV Detroit Express: 86% Less CIP Cleaning, No Chemicals

Home 9 Case Studies and Results 9 MV Detroit Express: 86% Less CIP Cleaning, No Chemicals
Key results
86% CIP cleaning reduction
58% fewer FWG openings
0 chemicals used

The Challenges

  • CIP chemical cleaning needed every 10 to 12 days
  • FWG opened monthly for manual cleaning
  • Scale, bacteria, algae and slime causing fouling
  • Chemicals used for dosing and plate cleaning

The Solution

One HM-100 unit was fitted to the seawater inlet pipe after the feed pump and before the fresh water generator in August 2016. The signal disrupts the conditions that bond scale and biofilm to surfaces, leaving only soft scale that is easily removed without chemicals.

Key Outcomes

R

CIP cleans fell from about 36 to 5 in 12 months

R

Dosing and cleaning chemicals no longer needed

R

FWG openings reduced from 12 to 5

R

No CIP needed for around 2.5 months
