The Challenge
- Cooling tower bio-count reduction was needed without giving up the site’s water-saving strategy
- Bio-counts reached approximately 100,000 CFU
- The required target was below 10,000 CFU
- Running at high cycles of concentration cut water use but created severe scale and biological fouling
- Scale and biofilm affected both cooling tower and chiller surface
The Solution
One HydroFLOW® Custom 14 inch unit was installed on the south-tower cooling and chiller water system of a complex covering 2.3 million square feet of offices across six buildings, more than 50 restaurants and shops and three hotels with over 4,000 rooms. A 90 day trial was planned. Within days bio-counts fell from around 100,000 CFU to below 1,000, far beyond the site’s own 10,000 CFU target. Scale and biofilm both reduced across the cooling tower and chiller tubes, the unit was purchased outright before the trial ended, and further units followed across the complex.
